Kolkata is the capital city of the tiny eastern state of West Bengal, the land of fish, football and adda. A city steeped in history, Kolkata owes its existence to the Englishman Job Charnock who, as a representative of the East India Company, founded this city on the banks of the river Hooghly, bringing together the three villages of Sutanuti, Gobindopur and Kolikata.
