Bangalore has always been the favoured destination of promising young minds in pursuit of higher studies. The city boasts of quite a few centres of academic excellence in all disciplines. Needless to say, the picture is no different for the city’s engineering colleges. Though Bangalore teems with technical institutions, we provide you a sneak peek of only a handful of them, each outshining the other in academic brilliance and professional creativity.

One of the top engineering colleges in the city, RV College of Engineering is the flagship institution of the Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust (RSST), a frontrunner in providing quality education in Karnataka. Global recognition of RVCE's initiatives has helped the institute to continuously evolve, augmenting faculties through offshoots of various branches. With a well-delineated social motive, the institution is all about healthy academic ambience sans any added frills of luxury. Kriya Kalpa, a technological museum devoted to India’s contribution to the engineering sciences is one of the attractions in the campus.

One of the first private sector initiatives in technical education in India, BMS College of Engineering has the highest number of engineering students from the state and draws many from other states as well. Located on the Bull Temple Road, opposite the famous Bull Temple, the institute offers graduate and post graduate degrees in most branches of engineering, computer applications, and business administration. One of the state’s oldest engineering colleges, its annual inter-collegiate cultural fest, UTSAV, is regarded as one of the prominent student-managed fests in the country.

Located 10 kms from the city's railway station, on the Ring Road, is People’s Education Society Institute of Technology (PESIT) run by the Visveswaraiah Technological University. The institute provides an impressive line-up of research facilities, not to mention the co-curricular activities that contribute to a holistic development of the students. With a strong and lively alumni association spread worldwide and a cultural outfit called Nupur, involved in bringing out the hidden talents of students through various activities, it is small wonder that every student here has fond association with her alma mater.

Established in 1962 with just two disciplines, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology today boasts of graduate programmes in twelve engineering disciplines. With state-of-the-art facilities, each department initiates, includes and conducts cutting-edge research in frontier areas.

The Bangalore Institute of Technology, or BIT as it is popularly known, is credited with the introduction of the first full-fledged Computer Science and Engineering degree in Karnataka. Identifying future growth areas and incorporating new courses are defining features of this institution. At present, BIT offers ten undergraduate, three post graduate and PhD programmes to its population of over two thousand students.

Besides these, the city boasts of other equally impressive engineering colleges that include RNS Institute of Technology, JSS Academy of Technical Education, Sir M Visveswaraiah Institute of Technology, Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering, and Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology, to name a few.

With such a notable line-up of engineering institutes, it’s not hard to guess what makes Bangalore the technology capital of country!
