A slice of true Italian pizza, only in Bangalore

Pizza has been refashioned in kitchens the world over to suit the palate of the locals and in the ovens of fast-food chains that promise to deliver it to you in less than 30 minutes. Italy’s most popular export to the world, Pizza comes in a variety of textures—deep pan, full crust, stuffed crust, cheese between the bases—and with even more exotic toppings like tandoori chicken and masala paneer. But nothing beats the original—the true Italian pizza pie—an overwhelming creation of thin crust, topped with fresh tomatoes, basil, cheese and thin slivers of meat, and drizzled with extra virgin olive oil.

Bangalore has a few restaurants that serve pizza in its true form, the best slice of which can be had at I-Talia, the Italian restaurant at Park . Served fresh out of the oven, the pizza has a thin crust: not too fluffy, not too crisp. Fiorano, an upscale Italian restaurant in Koramangala, too does a good job when it comes to baking delectable pizzas. However, both these places come with a high wallet factor.

In the mid range there is Herbs & Spice, which has a limited menu that changes daily. Here you are restricted to only one kind of vegetarian and non-vegetarian pizza; however, don’t let this deter you as the exotic toppings of fresh basil, aubergines or smoked ham will pretty much make up for it. While at Sunny’s, do try the pizza with smoked salmon topping.

And finally, true Italian does come cheap at Java City. You will be surprised to find that this café serves a great margarita pizza, with just tomato sauce and cheese. Season it with some oregano and chilli flakes, if you must, and sink your teeth into a slice of heaven.

Via Milano (Koramangala) does a really nice pizza as well. As does Mynt at the Taj WE. Citrus at the Leela also does really nice pizza, they even have a wood fired pizza oven! These are all high end, price wise.

Little Italy (Indiranagar) is decent pizza as well. All veggie but decent nevertheless.

And you guys put Sunny's in 'mid range'? Sunny's should have been high end and Fiorano mid range.

Java city pizza base is pretty good (they also do a wheat version of the base). They even sell the base so you can make your own sauce (or buy Ragu's) and cheese and assemble a pizza at home.

Fiorana 3.5*- nice pizza - crunchy
Via Milano 4*- thin, bubbly light base
Sunny's 3*- the only thing I dont like about their food is the pizza (too heavy, thick base) but all my friends love it, so ...
Herbs and Spices 3*- ok pizza
Park 4.5*- really nice!!!
Citrus 4*- really nice!!!
Mynt 3.8*- pretty darn good

The stars are for pizza quality only, IMHO.
