What started off as a tiny roadside magazine store just beside the KC Das sweetshop has expanded considerably since then. With two outlets to boot, one at the junction of Church Street and Brigade Road and the other at The Only Place, this is a haven for those addicted to the glossy covers and is probably the only magazine shop that also sells magazines published in the UK and the US apart from those published in India. The international magazines, despite being back issues, are as good as new. In fact, what makes this shop unique is that these magazines are always sold at a good discount.
Spread over 2,000 sq feet in a basement, the shop has its magazines stacked on racks, above and below the tables. And if you are lucky, you can spot all the three cats, two of which are Persian, snoozing or lounging around the store.
Magazines are stacked under various categories. From technology to science and interiors to entertainment, you name it and it has them all. There is a whole list of interesting titles for women that includes Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, Harpers and Queen, Vanity Fair, GQ, Marie Claire and the like. In addition to this, the shop also sells copies of Ananda Bazar Patrika, Sananda, not to mention the Khaleej Times.
For music lovers too this magazine store is a haven, with magazines like Rolling Stones and BBC Music kept on display here. Apart from this, popular children’s comics like Tinkle, Chandamama and Amar Chitra Katha find a place on the stands as well.
Over the years, the magazine shop has managed to acquire a steady stream of regulars who frequent the place for their favourite reads and keep coming back for more to the lure of the glossy covers.
