If it’s one of those days, when you want ten different things on your plate for the price of one, or you are just plain hungry and an a la carte won’t cut it, head to a buffet table. Whoever came up with the idea of a buffet definitely deserves the plaudits. You could be a foodie or someone who enjoys the occasional meal out; no matter what your culinary constitution, you just can’t deny the lure of the huge spread at the buffet table!
For what is by far the best spread in Indian cuisine in the city, head straight to Angeethi at the Museum Inn on Church Street. You will have to brave a long line if you don’t get there early enough, but trust us, it’s worth the wait. The dhaba-style north Indian spread is excellent and they don’t skimp on the meat dishes. However, Angheeti puts out the spread for lunch on weekdays only.
If you want a multicuisine platter, try Indijoe’s on Airport Road. Their lunch buffet offers everything from cold cuts and cheese platter to Thai dishes, biriyani, pizza and pasta. The dessert table is also something you should leave space for.
Tucked away on the top floor of The Bombay Store on MG Road is the restaurant Tai Tai. As the name suggests, it is a Thai and pan-Asian restaurant that lays out one of the best Thai buffets in the city for lunch. Reasonably priced, the spread is much more than just red and green curry. Exotic papaya salads and a great chicken satay adorn the tables among such other delicacies.
Breaking away from the buffet-lunch tradition is the Richmond Hotel on Richmond Road. This place lays out an impressive buffet spread for breakfast. From 7.30 am to 10.00 am you can eat like a king, taking your fill from hot bread rolls and porridge or cereal to eggs of your choice, bacon, sausage, hash browns and baked beans. If English breakfast doesn’t excite you, you can always pile up your plate with idli, vada and steaming hot sambar, also on offer. Fresh juice and a variety of preserves and cheeses add the final touch.
The next stop-over is Desmond’s on Lavelle Road and in Koramangala. Even though the spread here doesn’t really classify as a buffet and falls more into the category of “executive lunch”, we had to add it in. Their executive lunch serves huge quantities of dal, vegetable curry and special veg or non-veg dishes, depending on your preference, complemented with naans and pulao, and rounded off with an ice-cream.
And finally, a buffet spread of all that is namma Bengaluru, can be enjoyed at the new restaurant South Indies. Located near the post-office end of the 100 Ft Road in Indiranagar, the food here is an all-vegetarian, south Indian extravaganza.
