Bright hues, the lingering fragrance of hookahs and a vibrant ambience—no this is not a boisterous new-age theme bar but a recently-opened posh café in the very heart of namma Bengaluru. And if you haven’t been fed by the grapevine as yet, here it is: after a successful stint in Bombay, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Jaipur and Chennai, Café Mocha has finally arrived in Bangalore!

Café Mocha brings to town a unique café experience. As you enter, you are struck by its chintzy charm: bold colours—red, blue, orange and even purple!—splashed all over, kitschy cushions and other curios warm and inviting, and barrel-shaped lampshades lining the purple ceiling.

If you are not impressed by the Japanese-style seating room, do not fret, you can lounge outdoors under thatched roofs, while various unusually-shaped lampshades catch your fancy. Or better still, you can choose to size up the world below from the vantage point of a tree-top!

The only flipside to these exciting seating arrangements, however, is that there aren’t too many two-seaters. Most of the seating can easily accommodate around four-five people, so it’s a bit disheartening to see the tables ill-utilised, especially when it is crowded.

The menu here is eclectic, to say the very least! Order from a range of crostinis, paninis, tapas and wraps and wash these down with their signature “thick shakes”, that truly are meals in themselves! Popular thick shakes include the Kit-Kat, Ferroro Rocher and Oreo Cookie, to name a few. If you think that you are not adept in handling that caloric deluge, do not worry: there is a variety of refreshing lemonades, teas and coffees on offer as well.

To satiate the sweet tooth, do try the chocolate fudge—warm, gooey and bittersweet, and perfect for those rainy evenings. Not to be missed either are the waffles, pancakes and crepes. And if that were not enough, Café Mocha also has assorted flavoured hookahs that you could try, while sipping your coffee. The service here is courteous and the music “lounge-ish”, with a distinct Arab feel to it.
