If you haven’t savoured a typical dhaba meal, it’s about time you did. Hit the many highways connecting the city, and look out for any one of these rustic eateries. Most of them serve authentic Punjabi and North Indian food, originally catering to truck drivers from up north.

These delightful eateries ooze rural flavours, in food and ambiance. Thatched huts with rudimentary tables and charpoys are very typically dhaba-like.

Alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic beverages are served at most of these joints. Teetotallers can choose between Chaas (Buttermilk) and Lassis. For starters nibble on kebabs, chicken liver fry, Paneer dry or egg burgi. As you dip your Rotis in sizzling Dal fry, vegetable curry and butter chicken, you can hear the bustling highways resounding nearby. In fact these sounds and smells add magical auras to these eateries.

However, the city is home to several such Dhaba-type joints, if you want to avoid the drive out to these highways. These city versions, sans dust and grime include: Dhaba, The Dhaba, Danny Lambas Punjabi Dhaba, Punjabi Dhaba, 9th Mile Dhaba, Sharmas Punjabi Dhaba and Bobby Dhaba (Next to Gurudwara, Ulsoor Lake).
