Feng shui, roughly translated, means "the way of wind and water" or "the natural forces of the universe”. Based on the ancient Chinese understanding of energy, or “chi”, which surrounds us, feng shui is all about managing our positive energies judiciously to bring about maximum benefit in our lives.
This chi can be classified into five categories, namely, earth, fire, metal, water and wood. Certain things like wind chimes, bamboo flutes, butterflies and running water are considered to have positive energy. By placing particular objects in certain corners and by manipulating the lighting of a room, we can convert the energy vibrations from malign to benign, and bring about considerable changes in our lives.
Given below are a few feng shui tips for your home and workplace.
Feng shui tips for your home:
· The entrance to your house should be devoid of clutter. For example, remove such things like shoes that might block the doorway.
· Avoid keeping mirrors in front of the bed, or at the side.
· Do not keep television sets in the bedroom.
· If possible, try and place an indoor fountain.
· Do not keep a refrigerator or a washing machine on the opposite side of your kitchen stove. The washbasin too should not face the stove.
· For a good rest, ensure that your bed has a solid wall behind it.
· Ideally avoid bunk beds for your children, but if space is scarce, then place a wind chime on top of the lower bed.
Feng shui tips for your workplace:
· Never sit with a window behind you.
· Don’t place sharp-looking plants like a cactus on your desk.
· Your desk should be clutter free.
· A three-legged Toad God with a coin in its mouth kept at the entrance would work wonders for a business.
· A dragon on the right-hand side of your desk, facing the window or the door would help your career.
