Healthy bites: Bangalore’s Mast Kalandar

“Eat Happy” is the mission statement here, and this bistro was started by a husband and wife entrepreneurs Gaurav Jain and Pallavi Gupta along with their business associate Anand Sri Ganesh.

Start off on this culinary delight with some starters. Popular ones include: chatoree chaat, kyonki khane se pehle kebab, chole samose ki chat, hot and spicy tikki platter, and palak patta ki chat. There’s even a weight watchers delight.

The food on top of the line here are wheat parathas. The choices are many, and range from the soft melt-in-your-mouth allu parathas to parathas stuffed with sprouts, assorted vegetables, mooli, cheesy spring onion, spicy corn, lachcha amongst others. Mouth-watering chutneys are served with these parathas, and this chutney menu changes on a daily basis. Some of the yummy chutneys include the pineapple surprise, tangy tomato and sizzling dahi mirch. Curries like aloo dum, tender paneer, dal tadka, baigan bharta, baby corn and spring onion and marwar ki gatta are also served.

Rice eaters can choose from biryanis or the ubiquitous chawal in various combinations like the rajma, cholle, ghantaghar ke kadhi or kichdee. Pulao’s are also served here. The combo-meals are the hot favourites, and are perfect for those quick lunches. The paratha combos consist of two steaming hot parathas (of your choice), sizzling dal, thick and succulent raitha, salad and spicy pickles. Similarly, you can also pick-up rice and curry combos.

Wash this down with some cool nimbu pani, mint refresher, aam panna, masala cola, pineapple panna, mango lassi or the zesty masala shikanjee.

Save the best for the last as they say. Dig into the sweet dish of the day be it the halwa, hot gulab jamoons topped with ice creams, malpua, fresh fruit salads or the crunchy choco pudding.
