Think Italy, and you are instantly reminded of mouth-watering food, typically the pizzas and the pastas. But that’s not all: Italy is also known for its wine and cheese, meat and fruits. Hop into any one of the numerous Italian restaurants and you instantly know why the land and its produce are celebrated with such vigour. So what are we waiting for!
One of the earliest places to have made the “Italian” mark in the city’s gastronomic psyche is Casa Picola that has several branches in Bangalore. A decent meal, coupled with an informal air and easy-on-the-wallet prices, has made this restaurant extremely popular.
Little Italy, Bangalore’s first all-vegetarian award-winning Italian restaurant, serves up some distinctly Italian dishes in a cosy ambience. While the portions may be tad small for a ravenous stomach, and not particularly wallet-friendly, these don’t stop people from frequenting the place.
A hopping distance away is another popular place, 100 Feet Boutique Restaurant. Housed in a cosy duplex, it offers a delightful alfresco ambience. Not-to be missed are Spaghetti Bolognaise and Spaghetti Carbonara.
Named after the small town of Enzo Ferrari’s birthplace, Fiorano is yet another Italian joint in town. Its menu has an extensive list of wine and cheese, and a tempting main course menu. This place is strictly for those with deep pockets. Of the same league are restaurants like I-talia, at The Park, and The Gardenia at Taj West End.
A new kid on the block is Via Milano. Classic décor, good service, scrumptious fare and reasonable price make this a popular place for lunch and dinner dates. Try the freshly-crusted pizzas here.
So go on, be seduced by the flavours of Italy. Buono appetit.
