After the debacle of RGV Ka Aag, Sarkar Raj is the next offing of Ram Gopal Varma, and suffice to say it’s quite the slick masterpiece. Indeed, RGV, is like the proverbial phoenix, and redeems himself with this political drama/thriller piece.
When the Sheppard Power Plant CEO, Anita Rajan (Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan) comes forth with a proposal to the Nagre family, to set up the same in a rural village of Maharashtra, the Sarkar (Amithab Bachchan) for reasons unknown is against it. However, his shrewd son Shankar (Abhishek Bachchan), sees a great potential in this said project, and after much persuasion, he convinces his father. Soon, along with Anita, he sets on an arduous journey of getting the much-needed support of the locals, except there’s more to it than meets the eye.
What seemingly is a relatively easy and fabulous project to set-up, is met with danger, deception, greed and eventually a political controversy with the forces of evil gunning for the ultimate demise of the Sarkar clan. Will they succeed? For that you’ll just have to watch the film.
Acting-wise, the entire Bachchan clan holds their own, and are convincing in the characters that they play. Even the supporting cast, of Dilip Prabhawalkar, Govind Namdev Ravi Kaleand, Sayaji Shinde and Supriya Pathak, too, hold their own.
Technically, the film is brilliant, and so is the writing. The musical score is haunting, and is in keeping with the theme of the film. You wait in anticipation for what lies ahead, and in true RGV fashion, you’re not disappointed.
If you’ve enjoyed RGV’s Satya, Company and Sarkar, you’re certainly in for a treat!
