Collecting fabulous footwear is as great a fad as glamourising your wardrobe with the latest in haute couture. And there is absolutely no limit to the number of shoes that can adorn your shelf. So give your feet a break from the towering stilettos and check out some uber-chic footwear that you can sport this season.

Hot shoes have gone retro with the wedge heel being back in style. Wedge sandals with criss-cross straps and ankle tie ups are all the rage, as are closed peep toe shoes with a wedge heel. Patent leather is the canvas of choice this season. Designer collections the world over are sporting patent pumps. Not to be outdone are evening sandals with banana heels. They aren’t just trendy, they are also ultra comfortable. Ballet shoes too remain in style; try the ones in animal print or those that come in metallic purple and magenta.

In the city good shoes come at a price; designer stores like Mango, Tommy Hilfiger and Guess have the most prolific range of shoes that includes everything from evening and day casuals to formals. Next also has a great collection, its cheetah print ballet shoes are especially cute. For some trendy footwear straight from Thailand and Korea, check out a small shop called Say C, located in the Java City outlet on Lavelle Road. Another such place that stocks imported shoes is Estilo, near Café Coffee Day, on the junction of Vittal Mallya and Lavelle Road.

If you have the penchant to trawl the bylanes of Commercial Street, you might well be rewarded with a great pair of flat sandals or sequined juties or kolhapuris. On Commercial Street proper, check out Inc.5 that stocks the Raspberry line of footwear. More Bangkok-imported shoes can be found at Arihant Plaza, but to sport them you need to have really tiny feet. There is also Soles and Metro that have a good collection to go with Indian outfits.

Woodland on Brigde Road has on display its new collection of women’s shoes and you will be surprised to discover that they have come a long way from stocking moccasins to selling uber-trendy platform sandals and court shoes.

So hit the shoe shops and don’t forget to put your best foot forward!
