The perfect lazy Sunday morning begins with a leisurely walk in Cubbon Park followed by swigs of cold beer and mouthfuls of Kerala appams dipped in piping hot chicken curry at Koshy’s. Located at St Marks Road, Koshy’s is one of the oldest and most popular eating joints in Bangalore.
This tradition of fine hospitality began in 1940 when PO Koshy started Koshy’s Mechanised Bakery, which still makes the best plum cakes in town. In 1952-53 Koshy added two more feathers to the crown—Parade Café and the elegant Jewel Box Restaurant. These two, together with the bakery, feature prominently in the city’s gastronomic psyche.
Over the years, Koshy’s has enjoyed an impressive list of patrons that includes the likes of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Marshal Tito, Nikita Khrushchev, Queen Elizabeth II, Maharani Gayathri Devi, and Arundhati Roy.
Koshy's delights its visitors with a variety of mouth-watering dishes, but highly recommended for the first timer is a simple meal of steamed rice, fish curry, marinated fish fry, and Kerala-style vegetable dry. If spices put you off, try the yummy spinach bake, mellowed down with white sauce, and wash it down with a glass of chilled seasonal fruit punch. For some delicious Mughlai cuisine, check out the succulent and scrumptious tandoori chicken kebabs with soft rotis and aromatic biriyanis.
Both restaurants have a fully loaded bar and there are some great snacks to complement the liquor. From the many lip-smacking vegetarian snacks to fish, chicken, pork and beef munchies, all are served here. What a great way to begin a marvellous evening of awesome dining!
For just snacks, beverages and ice creams, visit Chill-Out, the latest venture of Koshy’s. This place is ideal to loll with a book, chill out with a friend or organise a simple party.
So cheers and bon appétit!
