Think traditional south Indian outfit and the only thing that comes to mind is the beautiful and elegant saree. If you are in Chennai the most-likely place you’d go to for saree shopping is the iconic Nalli Chinnasami Chetty at T Nagar. Nalli’s has been around in Chennai since 1928 and is synonymous with quality silk and cotton sarees, Chennai is so famous for.
Situated in the bustling Panagal Park, the store has hundreds of regular patrons who make it a point to shop only from here. The building that was once a few storeys high has now expanded and got itself a couple of new annexure.
If you were to simply stroll through the store, and across the floors, it would take you a couple of hours to get a glimpse of the various silk, printed silk, kanjeevaram pattu sarees, and the salwar suits lined up. Shelves heave with Banarasis and polycot sarees, blouse pieces, skirts for little girls, men’s dhotis and towels. Nalli has a wide variety in an expansive price range to suit every occasion.
If you are looking for multiple identical sarees, let them know and they’ll make them for you. They also have a good collection of 9 yard sarees. Nalli is open from Monday to Sunday, 9 am to 9 pm.
If saree is what you plan to buy, it’s got to be from good old Nalli’s.
