Mall mania has finally caught on with Chennai’s tag-chasing janta. Any given day just pass by the huge Spencer’s Plaza on Mount Road or care to step into it and you’ll know why. Thousands of square feet of shopping glitz buzz with scores of exited buyers and equal number of people, hanging out for the sheer pleasure of it all. Looks like this mall is here to stay.

The best thing about malls like Spencer’s is that, it’s a one-stop-shop for every conceivable commodity. Be it clothes, accessories, books or home appliances, you find them all under its giant roof. In fact, one whole day at Spencer’s is not enough and you will have to come back at regular intervals to browse though your favourite titles at Landmark, run your hands on silk kurtis in Westside, try out watches at the Titan showroom, or simply ogle at the exquisite pieces in Uttarika.

Don’t have anything in particular to buy? Not to worry, Spencer’s is a good hangout zone as well. Glide on the escalator or take the glass capsule through the floors as you soak in all the joie de vivre of the well-lit atriums pulsating with life. Munch on a cookie from Cookie Man, sip a cup of hot coffee outside Spencer’s grocery store in Phase I, or stroll through the hidden alleys, as you discover more interesting stores. A pet store, beauty parlour and even a skin clinic are bound to grab attention.

Kids too don’t feel left out. A horse or an elephant ride or zooming down the escalators will have them occupied. And if all that walking up and down leaves your tummy growling for grub, satiate it pronto with a sandwich, lip-smacking pizzas, or scoops of butterscotch ice-cream.
