If you’ve been to Chennai and haven’t had sweets from Shree Mithai, you’ve not had your fill of the city enough. What started off as a mere milk-vending outlet years back has grown to become one of the hottest destinations for sweets and chaats. Be it for an after-meal dessert or a late-evening snack, Shree Mithai is where you head to.
Walk in, and grab a cup of badam milk to know what we are talking about. Or try a spoonful of moong daal halwa or carrot halwa, an absolute melt-in-the mouth delight. Ask any seasoned Chennaiwallah and she’ll tell you how their freshly made sweets and savouries fly off the shelves in no time. Hence, if you seek something specific, better get there early.
Though Shree Mithai is primarily a sweet shop, it has extended itself to selling much more than just jalebis and kaju katlis. Expect laddoos, rasamalai, dry fruit sweets, rasogollas and many more. You could also pack in a few savouries like bhujia and bakarwadi, and various tongue-tingling chaats. Other than the sweet counter, this place also has a separate area where you can stretch your tired legs and have a lip-smacking fill of pav bhaji, kachori, chole bhature, samosa chutney or chilli cheese toast.
Come festival time and Shree Mithai takes on the look of delicious urgency. Inveterate foodies make a beeline to the colourful counter, trying to bag in everything from yellow and pink rasogollas to pedas shaped like watermelons and carrots.
