Market Watch in Delhi: Aurobindo Place Market

For the residents of Hauz Khas, SDA, Green Park, Vasant Kunj and Munirka, Aurobindo Place Market is a favourite. Not just because it’s close by, but also for the wide range of products and services available in this unassuming market. From baby clothes to toys, ready-made chikanwear to denims, pet food to accessories, groceries and fresh produce to home appliances, you get it all.

Midland Bookstore, with its wide range of fiction, non-fiction and children’s titles, is a favourite haunt of bibliophiles. However, if you are looking for slightly more academically-oriented books, there is the Jain Book Agency for you. Jain Books also stocks passports and Income Tax forms.

If you are in the mood for jewellery shopping, browse through Pyare Lal Jewellers and you might find something you like. He keeps gemstone jewellery as well as gold, silver and diamond.

The market has a couple of small grocery stores. Nothing fancy but you will find all your daily grocery needs answered here. But, if you happen to be looking for cottage cheese, pizza base, juices, sprouts, breads or biscuits, do visit Quality Paneer Bhandar, that not only keeps dairy products but also mushroom and sprouts.

Appliances India is a good bet if you are revamping your kitchen. From microwave-suitable cooking ware to pressure cookers, non-stick pans and glass bowls to OTGs, toasters and steam irons, you get them all here. This store also keeps a selection of imported Swiss chocolates and candies.

With restaurants like Kabila and Wimpy’s dishing out mouth-watering grub, Aurobindo Place Market can also double up as a dine-out option. Kabila is popular for its Indian food and live music in the evenings. Try the butter chicken, mutton biriyani, tandoori mushroom and desserts. The place has a regular fan following in south Delhi.

If ghee-laden Indian food isn’t what you are looking for, grab a bite at Wimpy’s—not much of a fine-dining experience but chairs and tables arranged outdoors for you to wolf down your burger and shake!

Aurobindo Place market is closed on Tuesdays.
