Sinful pleasures at Delhi's chocolate bars

Imagine sipping champagne from a chocolate mould or biting into a bar of full-bodied Belgian chocolate. Sounds too farfetched? Well, not really. Delhi, dotted with chocolate bars and confectionery stores, is a haven for chocoholics where all these drooling dreams become a delicious reality. Connoisseurs of theobroma, read on.

At Choko La, in Khan Market and Basant Lok Market, chocolate obsession is marked with a capital C. Think of anything concerning the famed pod and you have it here. Done up in warm hues with chocolate trivia and cocoa pods decorating the tables, Choko La enjoys a steady stream of visitors, who drop by for its hot and cold chocolate, custom-made cakes and special chocolate fondue.

Chocolatiers, at Chittaranjan Park, is Delhi’s first chocolate boutique and a Mecca for chocolate lovers. Its COO Sanjiv Obhrai ensures that all chocolates are handmade. Apart from the regulars, try Bloody Chocolate (with red wine) or Bullshit Chocolate (with centreshock chewing gum!) or Mirchi Chocolate (with red pepper). Chocolatiers custom makes liquor chocolates as well. You could also buy your cooking chocolate from here.

Liquor chocolates are a hot favourite among Delhiites, who would love to get heady at the slightest pretext! Chocolate Box, the chocolate bar at Radisson Hotel in Mahipalpur, does a great job when it comes to liquor chocolates. As you bite into a thin chocolate crust you are suddenly flooded by the delicious warmth of bubbling champagne or sambuca. Weight watchers fret not. You can also get all the taste sans calorie: Chocolate Box does some excellent sugar free chocolates.

Not to be left behind is Celeste Belgium Chocolate in Wazirpur. Its Belgian chocolates, chocolate tattoos, liquor and hazelnut truffles are a huge draw among the young and the old alike.

Tasted and tried Delhi’s best? Move to its cousin for more. Chocolate Country at DLF, Gurgaon is a treasure trove filled with goodies. Mommy can nibble at champagne chocolates while kiddo dear gets busy with strawberry-chocolate teddies. Other flavours are also stocked regularly.

From Rs 6 per piece to Rs 1000 per kg, the cost of chocolates is as varied as the ware. As they say, there’s always a price to pay for sweet nothings.
