Got an unearthly hour flight to catch, or uncomfortable at the thought of waking up your relative to drop you off at the station to catch the early morning train, or heading home after a late night party, and you have to fend for yourself? If so, then radio taxis in the city are here to rescue you!

While car rentals serve long distance travel and tourism better, radio taxis or metered taxis are perfect for short-distance travel within the city. What’s more, it saves from bursting a blood vessel whilst waiting for an auto to actually take you to your destination, and not ripping you off as well.

The standard rate in Hyderabad for radio taxis begins at a minimum of Rs. 80 for the first four kilometres, and for every kilometre thereafter, one is charged at Rs. 10/km. Once the booking is made, the message is distributed through their network via walky-talkies, and the cab nearest to you reaches you in no time. However, just to be on the safe side, it is recommended that you call at least an hour in advance. For night time travel extend the buffer by at least 3-4 hours. Better safe than sorry, as the say. What’s more is you pay as per the given rate, and save yourself the bargaining hassle.

Most car rental companies also deal with metered cabs. For instance, Cosy Cabs provides cars on rent, while their other division, City Cabs (Begumpet) have metered taxis. Radio cabs typically don’t fall under the luxury cab pick-ups, so if you’re looking for something more “luxurious”, then you will have to opt for the rental services which are expensive.

Others such as Cel Cabs and Fast Track facilitate weekly bookings for corporates who wish to avail cab services to commute between home and office, rather than drive through the maddening traffic. And, surprisingly enough, the charges are the same!

Select Cabs+91-40-4415-1515 - They offer Tata Indigo Marina - they can very coveniently back out of bookings at the last moment even though you may have booked 2 hours before and they had confirmed the booking.

Metered taxis are available, but they cannot be hailed off the street. One needs to call their centralised call centre and book the service. Service is very good if you are booking for longer distances for travel else expect them to not turn up even after booking. It is next to impossible to be able to get a cab without prior booking since demand far outstrips the supply. All metered cabs have digital meters that show the distance and fare.
