What Delhi Gymkhana is to Delhi and Colaba’s Radio is to Mumbai, Secunderabad Club is to the twin cities. Instituted in 1878 by the British military officers to meet, party, eat, drink and be merry, the Secunderabad Club (Secunderabad) is one of the five oldest clubs in India (Kolkata’s Bengal Club being the oldest), and the first of its kind in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
The Secunderabad Club has evolved over the years with its all-British defence fraternity gradually giving way to Indian businessmen, chartered accountants, lawyers and civilians as its members. And thanks to the members and the management, the Club is highly sought-after among the young and old alike.
One of the many perks of being a member includes:
· Unwinding over at the Mixed Lounge (for families) or the Colonnade.
· Using its many facilities such as the swimming pool, gym, library, TV lounge, tennis courts and the like.
· Shopping at the Club Shop.
And that’s not all; the club has its very own petrol pump, too. Fancy catching an old English flick, or choose to request for a movie over some food and drinks, or even enjoy a romantic candle lit dinner? All this is possible and more over at the Sailing Annexe on the Husain Sagar lake.
Besides this, the picturesque Sailing Annexe , located within the Secunderabad Sailing Club, also provides motor boats, sailing workshops, banquet halls, and open air party and lakeside lawns venues. In addition to this, their event calendar is filled with festival celebrations, ghazal and karaoke nights, beauty pageants, food festivals, carnivals, sports tournaments and many more.
The Secunderbad Club has several affiliations across the country and abroad as well. The club offers different kinds of memberships such as: individual, corporate, temporary (long-term/short term), permanent and associate memberships. Single women and military officials have special provisions. The only disadvantage before becoming a member is the long wait that sometimes stretches to 15 years.
But it’s well worth the wait, wouldn’t you agree?
