Paradise for bookworms, Oxford bookstore

Can’t pry your hands off the latest bestseller? Your friends comment that you are always in the company of books? Worry not; here is a store that will make you feel like a child in a new toy store. The Oxford Bookstore opened its first store in Calcutta, in Park Street, and since then has moved to other parts of the country. This is a Bookstore that is over 80 years old, but has come back with a bang, a new look and some funky décor.

The huge red and black signboard lies prominently against the white wall, catching the eye of the passers by, drawing them within. The see through glass façade gives a unprecedented view of the store, adding to the warmth of the place. Shelves stacked with books, magazines, Cd’s and many more appeals to the young and old. And if ever you are on the hunt for a specific book, just ask the salesman and he will key it into their computer and find it in a flash.

Right next to the Oxford Bookstore is the Junior Oxford Bookstore which stocks books, toys, stationery, CD ROMs and DVDs especially for children. There are tiny chairs and tables for parents to sit and read out or play with their children.

If you have been wandering about for a while and feel like sipping on some hot tea, get up to the Cha Bar on the first floor. Enjoy the beverage or sample their potato wedges as you flip through the books and make a choice on what to buy and what to leave behind.
