How to get there: Government Museum of Chennai is located off the Pantheon Road in the Egmore region, very close to Chetpet and Mount Road. A short drive from Chetpet, or Spencers will lead you to the Museum.
Details: Worth visiting, the Government Museum is located on Pantheon Road, between Egmore and Anna Salai. The Main building has a Fine Archaeological Section representing all the major south Indian periods Including Chola, Vijayanagar, Hoysala and Chalukya. It also houses a good ethnology collection. The bronze gallery has a superb collection of Chola art. The museum opened its doors in 1851 and contains some of the prized possessions of the Government, ranging from art and stamps to contemporary paintings and fossils. The buildings stand tall, each with a unique style of architecture, the looming dinosaur welcoming visitors. The famed Connemera Library is housed within this campus, giving students a chance to savour books in style.
