I had been a regular at this salon until about 6 months ago when I moved to another city for a project. However, today I found the entire staff changed. I asked the unfamiliar receptionist for a normal Loreal hair spa (which is what I had always opted for) So, my hair spa, which normally takes about an hour and half, was stretched to 2.5 hours (2 hours of waiting with my hear smeared with spa cream + .5 hour of actual spa) because they now only have 1 employee for hair spas, hair cuts and hair related stuff. I was left unattended, without even being offered water for the entire period. The receptionist had the A/Cs turned off, and I had to spend an hour sitting in the heat (It is the middle of July and the temperature is over 35 degree C) with a steamer fixed over my head. During the final wash, the attendant asked me if I wanted to take some additional services as they were offering a 999 package. I told her that I was aware of the package but was a little short of time today. The first major shock came when I was asked to shell out 1200 bucks for the hair spa alone when I had previously always paid Rs. 999 for the same hair spa+pedicure+face cleaning and Rs. 450 for just the spa. Having frequented the place so often (and obviously having had no information that the ownership had changed when I walked in), I did not consider it necessary to ask for the prices for my regular service. I had not known I would be asked to pay 3 TIMES the amount. Trying to keep my temper in check, I told the receptionist that I had asked for the NORMAL LOREAL hair spa, the one they gave in the 999 package. I was told that they had changed the price for the hair spa to Rs. 1200. I was really confused now. Who would opt for the Rs. 1200 hair spa when they could get the same hair spa+pedicure+cleaning (or 2 other optional services) for Rs. 999? I asked her when the prices had been changed. At this point, the owner of the franchise, who had been sitting behind us, loudly proclaimed that she had changed the prices when she had taken over the salon 3 months ago. Since that was possible, I did not respond but told the receptionist to bill me for the Rs. 999 package and that I would take the remaining 2 services next week or the week after. I also asked her to give me the new price list. The loud voice replied that they had not printed the price list yet. Now I turned around to face her. âYou took over 3 months ago and havenât printed a price list, even though you have raised the prices to 3 times what they were?â If I had been surprised by had happened so far, I was shocked when she rudely replied in harsh hindi, âI am the owner. I think I should decide when I print the price list.â Ohkayy. âAnd the Loreal hair spa is now in the Rs. 1500 package.â (Wow, considering that one of the attendants had already TOLD me that it was part of the 999 package!) The receptionist who was half-way through making the bill, wrote Rs. 1500 instead of Rs. 999. âI was not informed the prices had been changed nor is there a price list on the counter.â I was angry by now. I didnât care much about the money. I donât mind splurging at salons, but this service had barely been worth Rs. 450, much less Rs. 1200. âI am not your servant. It is not my duty to inform you of the prices.â (Yes, she used the sentence âI am not your servant.â) I was absolutely livid at this point. âYou are a service provider though. Thatâs not how you talk to customers.â âTumhaari wajah se nahi chal raha ye parlourâ (This parlour is not running because of you.) I laughed, turned to the receptionist and asked me to bill me for the 1200 rupee hair spa only, because I was never going to return to the place. And the cherry on top, the owner (who had been yelling all this time) turned to the receptionist and said âDonât give her a receipt. Aise behave karegi toh bill nahi dene ki zaruratâ (You donât need to give her a bill because she behaved like this). After a 5 minute long argument, with several other customers intervening and telling her that she had to give me a bill for the service I had taken, she was forced to give me a bill. I have never had a worse experience at a salon. Never been yelled at before by a âservice providerâ. Never been swindled so blatantly. I had always prided myself on being a calm customer, never complaining or getting into arguments over delays or minor waxing burns, but thatâs because I had never visited a place so grossly mismanaged by such an inept and obnoxious manager.
