Helen Kellerâs Institute is a rehabilitation centre for disabled children. The school was started on 27th June 1984, on the occasion of 105th Birthday of âHelen Keller", a lady who emerged successful in life in spite of being blind and deaf. Now there are around 560 deaf children in two special schools offering education from pre-school to intermediate school level in both Telugu and English mediums. Both these schools are recognized by the state government. A junior college for the deaf named âJohn Peterâs Memorial Junior College for Deafâ has also been started to take this initiative forward.
