Chowdaiah Memorial Hall: Host to plays, dance recitals, concerts and other events, Chowdaiah Memorial Hall is Bangalores cultural hotspot. Established in 1980 as a tribute to famed violinist T. Chowdiah, this violin shaped auditorium is a favoured venue for the citys cultural events. Booked throughout the year, there is always something worth the culture vultures time happening here. This air-conditioned hall has a seating capacity of 1045, well-designed acoustics, powerful sound system and power back-up for an uninterrupted performance.

Sadly, Chowdiah is the only option for any large-scale performance in Bangalore although it hardly rates as among the best. The approach road is narrow and parking is a mess. They could easily organize a better concession stand than the chaos at the current canteen. Even inside, the air-conditioning is usually turned on just before the performance and switched off 10min before the end, making it rather stuffy. I look forward to some competition coming up, so that these guys are forced to offer decent amenities to theatre lovers in Bangalore

Chowdiah Hall does not have a balcony. It is located in the northern direction (you mentioned western bangalore).

I have read somewhere that Chowdiah Memorial Hall is the only structure in the world built in the form of a musical instrument. Even if itâs not, itâs definitely one of the great landmarks of Bangalore and a visual treat for connoisseurs of art, culture and music. Itâs devoted to one of the most-gifted musicians of all time, Peteelu Chowdiah. Peteelu is the Kannada word for Violin. He was a very-much respected musician during the Wodeyar-dynasty rule. Chowdiah is also the grand-father of famous Kannada actor Ambarish. Itâs located in one of the oldest residential localities of Bangalore â Vyalikaval (Gayatri Devi Park Extension to be specific), which is very much attached to Malleswaram.
