Samarkand: Looking for a fine-dining experience? Samarkhand, specialising in Mughlai and north Indian cuisines, could be your ticket to a royal repast. Low seating, warm lights and soothing earthy tones define the ambience, not to mention the menu card that comes in the form of a newspaper and the open kitchen where you can see the kebabs being skewered to perfection and romalis being tossed and deftly caught. Complimentary breadsticks, along with an assortment of dips, gets you ready for the feast that follows. Pamper your taste buds with an array of kebabs, biriyanis, curries and desserts, served with dollops of usual Mughlai courteousness. Be prepared to wait an additional 10-15 minutes even if you have reservations.

Horrible!! Had very bad experience. No Quality food served anymore. When we asked to make spicy starters, some chat masala powder and chilli powder was sprinkled on them. I don't understand why they charge so much when they cannot keep up the quality. Very bad staff... there was not even a Sorry that came out from anybody when we complained. Shameless!!!
I will never visit this place anymore and would recommend my friends not to visit this place...
Ambience, decor is average. Food was underwhelming. Their famous Gosht Biryani was nothing extraordinary.
Given the high price (5300 for 6 people), I had expected a lot better.

You should carry enough money or have card to swipe and forget what you paid for next two months, may be you will forgo your next two outings. There are many hidden charges which are un-explained. Almost 30% over the food bill you end up paying Taxes. Service tax & VAT are understandable but a service charge/tip of 10% over and above these is not understood. A tip has to be voluntary. A customer cannot be fleeced of tips without his permission.
The prices are very high. You will never find the rates of platters on the menu card. You are in fora big shock if you order a platter. A non veg small platter cost is Rs 1500 + taxes and Veg small platter cost is Rs 1000 + taxes which is a bomb.Each piece in the platter costs Rs 100 each. You

The tables are low seated and decor is ethnic. The food is good but the chairs and the seating is uncomfortable. Also it is expensive.
Been to this place for their famous Gosht biryani. Had bad experience cuz of having no response or apology on finding hair in food. Also the bill came with service tax (5.5%), service charge (10%) and Vat (14%). So we paid 29.5% above the food bill.
The food was ok made with high quality ingredients, the ambiance was decent but never worth this price. there are much better restaurants in Bangalore where u can get better food at this price.

The food is awesome and ambienc is all set to take you to NWFP. They provide you a variety of sauces along with starters and the pickles that comes along with Main course is really yummy.
The seating is a bit uncomfortable!! Especially if you are tall
i have always enjoyed the food at this restaurant. i can understand their not setting silverware on the table (for the rustic feel) but i wish that they would provide it upon request. tomorrow evening i shall take my own, i hope they do not object.
I second the comments from Komal. Last time we visited - the food felt so heavy (most likely due to soda) that we got out halfway in our meal, without bothering to pack leftovers. It used to be okay restaurant - but now can be described with - bad food, rude service, extremely overpriced. We will not visit again.
Samarkand sports the same decor/ambiance as that of Jalsa in Marthalli , albiet with better food...non veggie paradise...prices were reasonable considering the quality of food nd the ambiance...pack at least 2k for 4 persons..
