Devi Multiplex

Mount Road ,Chennai
April 02, 2010
Okay, so it's Friday night and you are in the mood for a movie. You eagerly hop onto the net greedy for tickets. Soon enough, INOX, Satyam and the rest of the multiplexes stick out their tongues at you and say "Naa-nana-naa. No brownie for you. We're SOLD OUT! Better luck next time" With that, it seems unlikely that you are going to watch any movie in the foreseeable future. So, now what? Ta-da!!!! Look no further my friends, I present to you... Devi Cineplex! Alright, so it doesn't sound like much. But fancy is what fancy does right? And besides, the important point is that it's easily accessible, it's affordable and it's comfortable. In lieu of the alternative (which is to stay home and sulk), admit it, it's all that you can hope for. Still sceptical, are we? Fine. Let's see if you can resist this. It screens not only Tamil but ALL the Hindi and English movies that you can never hope to find tickets for in any other multiplex. And, then there are the prices of the tickets. They start from, hold your breath, 10 bucks. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I said TEN bucks. (that's right.. these are very much like the very first rows in the theatres of our childhood where shady looking people sat and whistled, but consider this: wouldn't you still pay 120 odd bucks if you sat in the front row of an INOX?) However, if you want to still play it safe, the silver and gold tickets are at 85 and 95 bucks respectively. AND, they have a fully functioning online ticketing system at www.devicinemas.in where you can book your tickets in advance and until the very last minute. They are almost always never full. Now, tell me you are not convinced. But like with all good things, there is also a downside. The seats are all on the same level, creaky and often rickety. The crowd can get a bit noisy, unruly and rowdy though mostly harmless. The screen will take you back in time when the 35mm was just introduced. And, the food is edible, at best. Now, I leave it to you to pit the pros versus the cons. Oh C'mon, who are we kidding. We already know the answer. A few grouses notwithstanding, Devi Cinemas is our dream come true.
