Landmark was the first lifestyle bookstore in Kolkata. It showed the city what buying books in style meant—air conditioned comfort, all the titles displayed neatly on their respective shelves, computerised catalogues and cheerful staff to help you out.
This swanky store on Lord Sinha Road was rechristened as Star Mark after the founder partners parted ways. But the shopping experience at the store remains just the same, or rather has got better. In fact, after the split, a brand new café has been added. You can now browse to your heart's content while sipping piping hot tea, coffee and other cool drinks and nibbling on cookies, sandwiches, muffins and rolls.
Star Mark has over 1,00,000 titles, ranging from fiction, biographies and business books to art, cinema, marketing and advertising, books on religion, philosophy, and a variety of graphic novels. At Star Mark you can also buy books online and avail of hefty discounts if you are a regular buyer.
Star Mark has an extensive music and stationery section. If you have a fetish for china, this store with its impressive crockery collection will surely meet your taste. There is an area earmarked for toys that is a big hit with children.
In the stationery section, they have a fabulous collection of high-end pens. So have a blast selecting that piece de resistance by Mont Blanc or that intricately crafted Waterman and Sheaffer’s. You can also bag the hard-to-get inks from these premier pen-making houses.
Star Mark has a total of three stores in the city. A 20,000 sq ft mega store in the recently-opened South City Mall at Prince Anwarshah Road is the group’s latest offering to Kolkata. And there’s one 3,000 sq ft store in City Centre , Salt Lake.
