Jurassic World 3D Movie Review

The first installment of Jurassic Park (1993), directed by Steven Spielberg, was a billion dollar earner at box office and even rated by some amongst the greatest films of all time. The second and third parts were big hits but never shared the respect that the first film had earned. ...

The highest compliment that I can give to Jurassic World is that it stands on its own feet. While it is obviously a sequel to Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, it does not use that 1993 film or the two prior sequels as thematic crutch. There are explicit and implicit references to events of the first film, but it mostly succeeds on its own merits as a topical and exciting adventure film. The film looks absolutely gorgeous, richly colorful and genuinely awe-inspiring at times, with perfectly convincing effects. Colin Trevorrow has delivered a polished, intelligent, and crowd-pleasing would-be blockbuster. Jurassic World accomplishes the task of being something of an original adventure within the confines of being a sequel. The first half-hour or so is pure character and plot set-up, and the dialogue is quirky and most of the characters are specific enough to earn our attention and our relative sympathy. Obviously you lose some of that charm when the film devolves into yelling and screaming and eating, but the picture never fully becomes an empty-headed spectacle. The action climax goes on too long, but the payoff is almost inspired. The humour and action were great, and honestly so was the CGI. I came into the movie worried that the computer graphics would kill any sense of "realty" I might feel with the dinosaurs and the park, and that was true at times.

Claire was rather more heroic and loveable than Pratt's character, Owen. She clearly stole the spotlight not because of running in stilettos throughout the movie but by delivering an awe-inspiring transitive character. The lead's chemistry was very phoney and was more fake than the genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex itself. The characters of the two brothers are very thinly scripted and are little more than throwaway characters, especially compared to the Murphy kids from the original. In the end, I'll place the film in third place in the Jurassic Park franchise after the original and third
