At the outset let me say that “it was horrible” I have made up my mind to say maximum persons in my relatives and friends circle not to step into your hospital. The first slogan we see in the hospital is “We are committed to patient safety” In fact for the right meaning it should read as “we are committed to “Payment” safety. The way in which the billing(TOTAL Rs.62,000) is done for two days in respect of my father-in-law (Mr. G.N. Venkatagiriyappa UHID WHBG.0000444150 adMISSION DATED 25.12.2013) is some thing to be called as “looting”. I will explain the experience. First of all there is no system of even enquiring as to whether in case of intense treatment, the patient or care taker is in a position to afford the expenditure. When a patient is taken on emergency, it is understandable that the duty doctor can’t explain the entire process whereas there should be some consultant who can explain the expenditure involved in case of taking up treatment in the hospital. Nothing of this sort is practiced in the hospital. Because of the patient fall and head injury it was explained to us that CT scan is required and also few X Rays. Even before the full report on the patient came to “Emergency Ward” we are asked as to whether we would like to keep the patient in the hospital or take him back to some other hospital. As we were not knowing the patient condition at that time, we had to agree for keeping patient in the hospital. Immediately, we are told that he has to be admitted to the hospital in ICU. By then for X Rays and CT scan Rs.10,770/- was paid. In the next day and till he was discharged on 27th December 2013, 1.00 PM, total billing of Rs.51,770/- was paid. This expenditure includes 10 different consultations of doctor (however no Chest specialist had seen patient for the first day although the patient had major respiratory problem) Interestingly Rs.8200/- is charged as “Glucometer Test” almost for every minute for some time at the rate of Rs.170/- per minute like 10.48AM – 5 time charged @Rs.170/- and 10.49AM again twice at Rs.170/- like this many times it is charged.. Glove Trika Safe Medium Examination etc 100 Numbers for 2 days. Whether required or not all the lab tests were conducted at the cost of Rs.14,000/- All these were done without even informing us about the requirement or expenditure involved. Having spent Rs.8,600/- for CT scan no report is handed over to us at the time of discharge (in fact we have to demand for it now) On 27th by 10.30 it was decided to get the patient discharged from the hospital and accordingly the discussion took place with the doctor under whose care the patient was kept in ICU. Finally, with lot of follow up with every one, we were able to get the patient discharged by 1.15 PM only. The total experience of this hospital is very very bad except the “hospital Canteen”. Today I have discussed in detail with the relative of mine who is also MD (Chest diseases) and working for a prime Hospital in a different city and he was shocked to know the type of tests done and X Rays taken and above all billing of Rs.62,000/- just for 2 days in respect of a “senior Citizen” (Advertisement says “Senior Citizen First” (is it for exploiting the situation by conducting unwanted tests and then charging exorbitantly? ) any way the option left to me know is to give maximum publicity on “how bad the hospital is” and then explore the feasibility of referring the matter to “Consumer Forum” on deficiency of service by way of exploitation of a Senior Citizen.
