Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the major causes of death worldwide and over 2.5 million people die due to cardiovascular diseases in India every year. Cardiovascular disease affects Indians 10-15 years earlier than people in the rest of the world. About 25% of deaths in the age group 25-70 years occur because of heart diseases. The main cause of cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke etc) is due to cholesterol build up within the blood vessels (scientifically termed as ‘Atherosclerosis’) leading to blockages. Atherosclerotic vascular disease starts early in life and slowly progresses. The disease may tend to remain silent until late in life, and then suddenly and dramatically presents itself as sudden death without prior warning symptoms. Atherosclerosis can be treated and prevented. Currently the main focus is on treating atherosclerotic vascular disease e.g., balloon angioplasty, bypass surgeries etc. Now research has clearly shown that atherosclerotic vascular disease is “preventable”. But one of the main challenges is to detect it early. Thambiran Heart And Vascular Institute is a new Heart Care Clinic in Chennai with outpatient services focussed on preventive health care and comprehensive heart disease management. The hospital has been set up with a vision and mission towards ‘Healthy Heart & Lengthy Life”. The institute has introduced clinically proven and internationally recognized state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic services that will help detect early heart problems at least as early as 5 to 15 years even before changes are noted on ECG, Echo or Treadmill. With the test results the vascular age of the patient is assessed and a personalized cardiac risk score card is provided. The center also offers Therapeutic life style changes, stress relief techniques, smoking deaddiction techniques, acupuncture, personalized dietary advice etc. Our ultimate goal is to save more lives from heart disease, the leading cause of death in India and globally.
