My father passed away from Liver cancer on the 13th Feb 2012. He had stage 3 cancer and he would have been with us had he not gone to Rajiv Gandhi Cancer hospital. Dr. Shivendra at the hospital had told my dad ‘uncle, like you have come to us hale and hearty, we will send you back the same way’. The way he put it across led us to believe these words and as a result, we lost both my father & our money within a month. The ICU in the hospital is pathetic in terms of the their attitude – one example is that despite the doctors telling the nurse that my dad needed to be given lot of water during the day for his Kidney function to work properly - the nurses did not even bother to respond even when my dad asked them for water many a times. They were rude and asked the sweeper to get the water – I have never seen such callous behavior in a ICU where you are dealing with very serious patients for extended periods of time. And this was happening during the visiting hours when the patient’s relatives were around. I shudder to think what must be happening when no one is around! The worst thing is a feeling of being cheated by the doctor, whom you put your complete faith in. We were told by him that everything was fine on Saturday evening and then on next day morning, he said that the situation was critical with no explanation why things went wrong in one night. Even more shocking was the attitude of the ICU staff which said that they cannot call the doctor on Sunday since that is a holiday for him – I could not believe my ears when they said this. We lost our father due to our innocence and faith in the doctor and the hospital. The reason why I have written this story is to make people aware that they should NEVER have complete faith in any doctor or hospital staff. Please be very alert and aggressive in demanding information and making sure that you understand the situation completely and take multiple opinions before taking decisions. The medical profession is also a profession and people are out there to make money from your innocence and helplessness, so please do not treat them as Gods.
