My father had a procedure for removing stone from the urinary track. He was given spinal anesthesia on the day of the procedure. Post the procedure, he had blood pressure fluctuation because of the spinal anesthesia and he had a mild heart attack in the morning around 8:00 AM but the symptoms were unnoticed by the hospital staff. The ECG was taken at 4:00 PM and we were told that we will be discharged and asked to consult a cardeologist near Vadapalani since there is a minor problem in the heart. Hospital staff delayed the discharge summary (may be, this getting discussed with the doctors on how to manipulate the report) till 5:30. Due to heavy traffic, we reached the Vadapalani hospital around 6:30 PM. My father walked to the hospital and while filling the form, he had a massive attack and passed away immediately. - Why the symptoms for heart attack was not diagnosed by the hospital staff and ECG taken immediately? - Even after the ECG was taken in the evening, why we were not told that my father had a heart attack so that we would have taken to a nearest hospital by ambulance and gained valuable time? - Why the hospital claimed that they can not read the cardiac symtoms since their speciality is only Urology? - Why we were not told the risks involved in giving spinal anesthesia? - Why we were discharged in a hurry and why the discharge summary written as my father was discharged after he felt giddiness? The doctors start coming to the hospital only around 10:30 AM whereas the patients will start coming in from 7:30 AM. There is a complete disregard for the patients and visitors. Only one attender is allowed per patient even during the visiting hours.
