I'm glad I escaped by the skin of my teeth. They almost made me agree to cough up the big money for a fantastic membership deal that seemed too good to be true. 30 years free membership at their Baruipur Club and the one that is supposed to be coming up at Kasba plus 30 years vacation accommodation at select locations across India and some abroad.
One, the club at Baruipur is so far out--35km off to the South of Ruby Hospital, just to define which end of the planet it is at. The one at Kasba is very small and not existing at the moment.
Two, there's nothing out there at Baruipur that could make your trip worthwhile. The whole property is weeded all over and in disuse except the bar and restaurant, that is to say if you are okay with t ... View Morehe tattered upholstery of the sofas. It seems the only people who club there are company agents who entertain clients. All that's advertised as amenities, do not exist in operational condition. Discotheque--fit for a cow shed. Swimming pool--structure is breaking up, never been filled with water. Paddle boats in the lake--lying upside down on the bank. Gardens were all overgrown--all the flowers dried up. Tennis court, volley ball court, golf course--none exist. There is one patch of land within the walls that if you wish you can use as any of the aforesaid facilities.
Moreover, they had refused to let me see the premises before I make the 1.25 lacs payment for a 30 year membership plus holiday accommodations across India and some other countries for 6 days a year. When I showed him the door, then came the offer of allowing me to see the place. These are simply crooks.
Whatever is written on their publicity manifesto does not exist in the same form as they would like you to believe and all the forceful marketing gimmicks make you suspicious if you are the discerning buyer that you should be these days. What I have seen at Baruipur awakens me to the fact that all the publicity talks are lies and what you may get during your vacations at their select locations also seem to be doubtful. I came across another friend yesterday who was actually conned into buying a membership and has somehow managed to get himself out of it through a traumatic experience.
What amazed me when we went there, a family was put up at one of the ramshackle bungalows, spending there weekend! There wasn't another soul out there other than the skeleton staff. We had pity on that family. They must have fallen for the gloss and glitter displayed on their advertised manifesto of which they won't let you keep a copy!
Makes one recall the old adage, "All that glitters is not gold". So friends, I advise one and all to steer well clear of these touts who try to sell you a membership at a petrol pump or supermarket or anywhere you stop for a few minutes.View Less
