Brightland Resorts, Matheran is a very expensive resort for the quality of both its boarding and lodging. We checked it recently for a three days family package for a cost of nearly Rs. 20,000/- We have been going to Matheran every year for the last 15 years and have stayed at several different resorts and hotels. We had stayed at Brightland earlier also about 11 years back but it was quite good in those days. Their property is huge but this stay was very painful for various reasons. For the three days stay, we were able to get the sheets changed only once and that too after a lot of followup. Basic things like soaps, mosquito mats etc. was provided after a lot of followup. These things are expected to be done on its own and I have never ha ... View Mored to followup for these in other similar cost-wise hotels in Matheran and other holiday destinations around Mumbai and elsewhere. The quality of the staff at the reception, house-keeping and dining hall was pathetic. They were hand-picked villagers and most of them were very young and raw and had no idea on how to talk to guests or how to handle their requirement. The worst part was their food. As their package includes meals, they made sure that it was worst to ensure their maximum profitability. The selection of dishes very clearly showed how much they value controlling their cost. To top most items were made horribly with maximum chilly possible. This was to ensure that you are not able to eat beyond a point. The desert was bad with mostly was some diluted milk preparations. You would experience a similar meal if you were to attend the marriage of one of your servants (no offence meant), as they canât afford it and you would go there to fulfil a social obligation and would come back happy after giving them a reasonable amount of gift. There guys are not similar. You have paid through your nose and they are cheating you by giving you sub-standard food. A complaint to them entailed an immediate response that no one else is complaining. We later realised after checking with other guests that even they are facing issues and are complaining to no avail and we also got to know that the owner is no longer running the place himself but he has let it out to a person for a lump sum annual deal. The guy running the show is therefore out to make a quick buck as his credibility is not at stake. Moreover, we found that many of the rooms have been given as company guest houses for long term stay and cheap rates and so he is fleecing individual guests like us. Guests coming to the several company guest houses will not find the treatment shabby as they are not paying anything. Moreover many would not be aware about the services to expect from such an expensive place. They were also holding a one day Sales event for 100+ young Sales personnel of a company who created such a nuisance which I cannot describe here. Net net the place is best avoidable unless your company is putting you up there and even then you must go back and complain to your Admin / HR.
